About the Role

Assists in the evaluation and treatment of patients at Emory Healthcare, a comprehensive academic health system in Georgia. This role involves working under the direction of a physician to perform specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, document patient care, and collaborate on treatment plans.

Responsibilities

• Documents the delivery of care in individual medical records.
• Conducts patient interviews and documents histories, health status, and medical problems.
• Performs physical examinations and specialized procedures (e.g., cast application/removal, wound suturing, dressing changes) under physician direction.
• Assists in diagnosing medical problems, developing care plans, and prescribing treatment.
• Orders, schedules, and performs laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures (e.g., urinalyses, blood tests, x-rays).
• Communicates procedure details, preparation, and anticipated effects to patients.
• Arranges consultations or referrals to other medical professionals/community services in collaboration with physicians.
• Educates patients on health habits, self-examinations, behavior management, follow-up care, and medication.
• Works with manager to formulate professional development plans.
• Attends educational in-services and participates in professional activities/organizations.
• Maintains accurate patient records, including medical assessments, interventions, and evaluations.
• Collects and interprets diagnostic data to implement care plans.
• Prepares statistical reports and analyses for research projects and investigational protocols.
• Trains and teaches healthcare professionals, students, and residents in specialized techniques.
• Actively participates in organizational health services committees.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Current licensure as an advanced practice nurse in Georgia by the Georgia Board of Nursing and certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC or equivalent body, or certification as a Physician Assistant by the NCCPA.
• Licensure as appropriate in the state of Georgia.
• May require at least one year of direct experience in one or more high-acuity clinical specialties.
• PALS, BLS, or ACLS certification may be required in some areas.
