Helper, Stranding

About the Role

To help operate high-speed stranding equipment to produce specified kinds of stranded cable on specified packages. After successful training, you will sign off as a High-Speed Strander Operator.

Responsibilities

• Help operate the high-speed strander with metering equipment, take-up capstans, take-up winding unit, and payoff unit.
• Use auxiliary equipment including portable welder units, grease and blasting cabinets, overhead cranes/loaders, wooden or steel reels, closing blocks and dies, micrometers, portable power back saws, adhesive tape, bolt cutters, pneumatic nail guns, forklifts, and miscellaneous small hand tools.
• Maintain constant attention to safety, quality, speed, and scrap in a fast-paced, highly focused machine environment.
• Serve primarily as a helper but occasionally act as the operator in cases of absence or other circumstances.
• Work as part of a 2-person team, following direction from both the operator and supervisor to maximize machine efficiency.
• Sweep the work area daily and return tools/materials to proper storage.
• Assist maintenance personnel with repairs, gear changes, bobbin stripping, or cable rewinding operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Materials Handled

• Various sizes and shapes of aluminum wire, aluminum alloy, aluminum wire on steel bobbins.
• Steel or aluminum cable on steel or wooden reels.
• Greases and oxide inhibitors.

Safety Rules

• Follow proper procedures when loading bobbins or reels to avoid back injuries.
• Maintain awareness of forklifts and ensure drivers are aware of your presence.

Requirements

• Predictable and consistent attendance is required due to the technical nature of the process and the need to meet elevated customer demand.
• Ability to work independently after training.

Receives direction from the Stranding Supervisor.
