About the Role

A Craft Helper/Labor (Mechanical) supports the safe, quality, and efficient completion of mechanical maintenance tasks at a petrochemical processing plant.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation, disassembly, repair, fabrication, reassembly, and installation of industrial equipment such as piping, fittings, valves, boilers, towers, vessels, tanks, exchangers, reactors, and pumps.
• Provide support services including firewatch, holewatch, bottlewatch, light equipment/vehicle operation, material kitting/delivery, and general housekeeping.
• Work under the direction of a skilled Journeyman and supervision of an experienced Foreman.
• Assist other crafts when not performing mechanical helper/labor activities.
• Read, understand, and adhere to restrictions and requirements of work permits and JSAs.
• Perform pre-task hazard assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks.
• Participate in and support site programs such as Safe Catch, Quality Catch, Stop Work Authority, Continuous Improvement (SMART Focus), and customer initiatives.
• Maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency in an industrial environment.

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in an apprenticeship or equivalent certification program combining classroom and on-the-job training.
• Capable of completing all required training for safety-sensitive work, including hot work, confined space entry, and fresh air work.
• Experience using industrial hand and power tools in an industrial environment.
• Fundamental experience performing maintenance on industrial equipment in a petrochemical facility.
• Good problem-solving abilities and an agile mindset.
• General aptitude for mechanical equipment, effective computing, literacy, numeracy skills, and manual dexterity.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Valid Driver’s License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
• Effective communication skills (written and verbal) with coworkers, supervisors, and customers.
• Strong commitment to Zachry and customer core values, safety rules, and regulations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid TWIC card for the duration of employment.
• Must successfully complete and maintain applicable Safety Council and/or site-specific credentials.
• Must successfully complete a 90-day probationary period and maintain satisfactory bi-annual evaluation scores of at least 3.0.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current or former Zachry employee with an acceptable ESR rating.

Physical Requirements

• Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, cycling, bending, squatting, lifting, and physically demanding work.
• Good dexterity with hands and fingers for precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
• Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• Capable of lifting, carrying, and moving up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working at extreme heights on fixed, temporary, and/or mobile platforms.
• Comfortable working within confined spaces such as tanks, vessels, pits, and excavations.
• Use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
• Capable of working outside in various elements (heat, cold, rain, snow, wind) for up to 12 hours a day.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, chemical suits, and steel-toe boots.

Schedule

• 9/80 work schedule.
• Up to 7 days per week, including overtime and call-outs as required.
