About the role

The Solar Physics Laboratory is part of the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP), offering one- to three-year fellowships to conduct research on solar coronal and interface region dynamics. Research involves new techniques, development of new instrumentation, analysis of data, and modeling of solar structure and dynamics.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in research on new techniques of measurement and development of new instrumentation.
  • Analyze and interpret data from space-based instruments like IRIS and EUNIS.
  • Conduct theoretical studies and computer modeling of energy transport, heating mechanisms, and plasma instabilities.
  • Coordinate observations from orbital instruments such as SDO and Hinode.
  • Perform absolute radiometric calibration using the EUNIS instrument.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
  • Strong background in heliophysics, solar physics, or related fields.
  • Experience with spectroscopic diagnostics and data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of solar system science and space weather.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR), or eligibility for an Exchange Visitor J-1 visa status.
  • Applicants must be Legal Permanent Residents of the United States if from Designated Countries.
  • Must have a valid EAD card and I-485 or I-589 forms in pending status if applying as an LPR, asylee, or refugee.

Skills

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or similar.
  • Experience with data analysis software like IDL or similar.
  • Knowledge of solar physics and space weather.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
