Heavy Motor Equipment Operator

About the role

The HEAVY MOTOR EQUIPMENT OPERATOR is responsible for operating various types of specialized heavy automotive equipment and performing manual tasks in support of construction and maintenance projects. This role requires a high level of responsibility and mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Operates construction equipment including graders, sweepers, rollers, and caterpillar tractors.
• Clears roads using a heavy snowplow.
• Maintains and repairs assigned equipment.
• Performs minor maintenance and repair work on assigned equipment.
• Loads and unloads vehicles.
• Performs a variety of simple manual tasks such as cleaning culverts, shoveling snow, painting, and road maintenance work.
• May be required to work down to lower level positions from time to time.

Requirements

• Graduation from High School or possession of a High School Equivalency diploma.
• Minimum one year of experience in the operation of vehicles 26,000 pounds or more, Class B, CDL with air brakes and a tanker endorsement.
• Must be 18 years or older with a clean Driver’s License.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy automotive equipment.
• Ability to service and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Dependability.
• Good physical condition.

Skills

• Effective communication both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Knowledgeable of D.O.T. regulations.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $26,000 per year.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as needed.
