About the role

The Heavy Equipment Operator utilizes a variety of heavy equipment—including scrapers, dozers, excavators, mine haul trucks, and backhoes—to mine and transport clay.

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy equipment in a safe manner.
  • Records quantity of material mined and hours of equipment operation.
  • Lubricates and provides routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Keeps work areas clean and free of clutter.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Mines raw material using haul trucks, backhoes, excavators, tractors, bulldozers, and road graders.
  • Counts and records raw material removed and transported.
  • Services forklifts, line trucks, and heavy-duty equipment.
  • Tracks and files daily inspection forms.
  • Works independently with limited supervision.
  • Participates in improvement activities.
  • Reads mining maps as necessary.

Requirements

  • Must meet Oil-Dri assessment requirements.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (may be required).
  • Evidence of ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and act on product specifications, SOPs, PWIs, AIQ processes, and similar documents.
  • Previous experience with heavy-duty equipment operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detail-oriented work.
  • Maintenance background helpful.
  • Good communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Physical endurance to operate geared equipment and perform heavy physical labor.
  • Ability to walk and work on uneven, rocky, or sloped terrain.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and inclines while carrying tools.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently.
  • Must be able to hear radio communications.
  • Must function while wearing PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, dust mask, protective coveralls, and other gear required in a hot, cold, dusty, or loud industrial environment.
  • Must meet all physical requirements of the position.

Pay

$26.09 per hour (hire rate).
