Heavy Haul Truck Driver

About the Role

Southway Crane & Rigging is looking to add experienced full-time truck drivers to our growing Branch in Macon. This position reports to the Branch Manager.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload cargo
• Record amount and type of cargo being delivered
• Take orders for new deliveries and drive long distances
• Fill up on fuel, clean truck, and wash windows
• Report to a dispatcher any incidents encountered on the road
• Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion
• Follow all applicable traffic laws
• Inspect their trailer before and after the trip and record any defects they find
• Follow accident procedures if an accident occurs
• Keep a log of their activities
• Report serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel
• Keep their truck, and associated equipment, clean and in good working order

Requirements

• Must possess a minimum of 3 years of experience
• Must have a current state issued Class A CDL Driver's License
• 6 months - year experience
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug test
• All candidates will perform a skills verification test on site before hire

Skills

• Ability to interpret, read manuals, and write reports in English
• Mechanical and analytical skills preferred
• Ability to prioritize, organize work, and meet deadlines
• Ability to provide proper hand signals to crane and truck operators
• Ability to verbally communicate safety issues to customers and other workers on location before and during job task
• Ability to work at heights and use all PPE required for fall protection correctly
• Ability to employ physiological movements and actions associated with heavy work: bending, stooping, lifting, seeing, hearing, walking, ability to lift 75 lbs., twisting, crawling, climbing, squatting, kneeling, sitting and standing
• Eyesight sufficient for operating a motor vehicle, inspection of equipment, and completion of paperwork
• Hearing sufficient for telephone contact and interpersonal communication with customers and coworkers
• Other duties as assigned
