About the Role

This position involves operating and transporting heavy equipment, including vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVR) of more than 44,000 lbs and engines of 200+ horsepower. The role requires loading, securing, and transporting materials—some of which may be hazardous, flammable, or classified as liquids or dry materials. The successful candidate will complete task sign-offs within twelve months and obtain necessary licenses and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Familiarity with the Company’s Safety Manual, Traffic Control Manual, Standards, accounting procedures, rigging procedures, heavy lifting procedures, and other applicable rules and regulations.
  • Successfully pass all training requirements (task sign-offs).
  • Inspect and maintain equipment as required.
  • Load and secure loads on all equipment.
  • Operate and drive heavy equipment, including vehicles with standard transmissions (two ranges) and a combination of mechanical and air controls.
  • Responsible for loading and over-the-road transport of materials, including hazardous, flammable, or liquid/dry materials.
  • Perform duties such as:
    • Pole hauling and removal
    • Pole-hole digging
    • Excavation projects
    • Crane operation
    • Demolition projects
    • Over-the-road transport
    • Bulldozer, mulcher, and grader service
  • Perform assigned work safely and efficiently in accordance with Company practices and procedures.
  • Adhere to the Company Code of Ethics and Principles of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL within 60 days of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain tanker, HAZMAT, and doubles/triples endorsements within one year of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain Crane Institute Certification (CIC) for 75+ tons within one year of hire.
  • Available to work overtime.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in harmony with others.
  • Physically able to bend, stoop, and lift for extended periods.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations.
  • Crane certification is preferred.

Testing & Interview Process

Candidates must progress through a multi-stage evaluation process:

  • Written Technical Test (must score 85% or better):
    • Arizona or FMCSA Drivers Manual
    • Blue Stake Law
    • OSHA Standards
    • Safety protocols
  • Physical Assessment:
    • Tractor/trailer inspections
    • Backhoe/dump truck operations
    • Marking and problem-solving exercises
    • Physical ability/strength test
  • Behavioral Interview:

    Focuses on past behavior as a predictor of future performance. Candidates should prepare brief scenarios illustrating skills relevant to the role, including problem-solving, handling success/failure, and quantifiable results.

Pay

Starting rate: $53.17 per hour.
