Key Responsibilities
- Follow all Wheeler Machinery and customer site safety policies, including lock-out/tag-out and contamination control standards.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, dozers, telehandlers, and mining equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance services, including fluid changes, filter replacements, inspections, and lubrication.
- Troubleshoot complex issues using Caterpillar diagnostic software and tools (Cat ET, SIS Web, DBS, VisionLink, etc.).
- Complete component repairs and replacements, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and undercarriage systems.
- Provide accurate parts identification and ordering to support repair work.
- Maintain detailed service documentation, including repair notes, inspections, timecards, warranty forms, and DOT logs when required.
- Communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, and team members regarding repair status and recommendations.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and uphold contamination control expectations.
- Support training, mentoring, and collaboration with other technicians as needed.
- Work independently with limited supervision while delivering high-quality, timely repairs.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, including swing shift, overtime, weekends, holidays, or on-call assignments based on customer needs.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of experience diagnosing and repairing CAT or Non-Cat Heavy Equipment (shop or field).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency with Caterpillar service software or willingness to learn (Cat ET, SIS Web, DBS, SIMSi).
- Ability to safely operate and maintain hand tools, pneumatic tools, and diagnostic equipment (including up to ¾” drive).
- A clean MVR and ability to drive company vehicles safely.
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Willingness to obtain MSHA certification if required.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 3+ years of Caterpillar-specific repair experience.
- Field service or advanced diagnostic experience.
- Knowledge of contamination control and clean fluid sampling.
- CDL Class B with tanker endorsement.
- Technical school or formal training in diesel or heavy equipment repair.
