The Heavy Equipment Technician I is responsible for the safe and efficient diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of mobile equipment, including bulldozers, loaders, haul trucks, excavators, and other quarry machinery. The ideal candidate has demonstrated full proficiency in equipment repair through hands-on experience, strong on-the-job performance, and documented OEM training. This role requires advanced skill in diagnostics, hydraulics, electrical systems, powertrain components, air conditioning, and air brake systems, as well as the ability to read and interpret schematics and technical blueprints.

Pay

  • $32.00 to $36.00 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using appropriate tools and lifting devices
  • Operate and inspect machinery to identify mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical defects
  • Diagnose equipment faults using computerized diagnostic tools and calibration devices
  • Examine components for wear, damage, or failure using micrometers, gauges, and other precision instruments
  • Perform routine maintenance, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, battery checks, and fluid sampling

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Heavy Equipment Technology or related technical field required
  • Continuous education a plus (certificates required)
  • Minimum of 5 plus years' experience in Heavy Equipment maintenance and repair

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently crawl, kneel, bend, and reach overhead
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs
  • Climb vertical ladders to access equipment
  • The work environment includes exposure to: outdoor weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and loud noise, moving mechanical parts, occasional work at heights or in areas with vibration
