About the role

Newman Tractor is a leading heavy construction equipment dealership providing new and used equipment sales, rentals, parts, service, and attachments. We support the construction, utility, mining, agricultural, pipeline, and energy sectors with the equipment and expertise they rely on. This Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic position supports our service department in delivering excellent customer service efficiently. The role is fast-paced, highly detailed, and requires a self-driven, organized, and detail-oriented individual with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Accept assigned work orders from the Service Manager to diagnose and plan repairs for equipment, including electrical, hydraulic, undercarriage, and mechanical systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments, such as inspecting hoses, belts, fluids, and filters.
  • Operate equipment as needed to diagnose and complete repairs.
  • Make heavy equipment mechanical repairs after a thorough inspection and analysis of breakdowns, with approval from the Service Manager.
  • Document complete repair descriptions on work orders, including the correct model, serial number, and hour meter reading of the equipment.
  • Submit all paperwork to the Service Manager and organize documentation generated during shop repairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • If applicable, make service calls within a 5-hour radius of the Newman Tractor location (or as directed by management), with overnight accommodations covered by Newman Tractor.

Qualifications

  • Experience with online parts and service manuals, as well as diagnostic software for heavy equipment.
  • Self-motivated and professional with excellent customer service skills.
  • At least 5 years of mechanical service experience in heavy equipment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of hours worked.
