Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Operates heavy motorized equipment used in water and wastewater systems. Participates in street, alley, and drainage maintenance, landfill operations, repair and construction, and any other related work as needed.

  • Operates vehicles and equipment such as excavators, graders, loaders, dump trucks, back hoes, rollers, tractors, mowers and various types of equipment.
  • Responsible for the cleaning, washing, preventive maintenance and servicing of equipment.
  • Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly, wears protective gear when needed.
  • Serves on stand by crew for after-hours emergency work as required.
  • Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions, must write reports by hand.
  • Use of radios and mobile phones.
  • Work in trenches and confined spaces, minor carpentry work, painting and concrete work.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • May be required to supervise one- or two-man crews.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

    • Knowledge of city, state, federal regulations pertaining to the operation of equipment in public spaces.
    • Proper techniques and uses of a variety of hand tools and power tools.
    • Knowledge of mechanical, proper care and skillful/safe operation of heavy equipment, ex. hand saws, skill saws, drill press, vibrators, bolt cutters, picks, axes, air compressors, jack hammers, cutting torch and various weight hammers.
    • Ability to operate a variety of motorized equipment.
    • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
    • Basic math, the ability to determine simple things and reports.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Three (3) years experience in the operation of light, medium to heavy equipment and posses a mechanical aptitude to make minor repairs and adjustments.
    • Ability to posses a Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B within 3 months of employment.
    • Must be able to obtain Wastewater Level Class I certification of competency as mandated by TCEQ within six months of employment.
    • Must be able to obtain Wastewater Level Class II certification of competency as mandated by TCEQ within (1) year of employment.

    Conditions Of Employment

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
    • Possession of Valid Texas Driver’s License.
    • Satisfactory Driving Record.
    • Proof of Citizenship and /or eligibility to work in the U.S. legally.

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds; push, pull and/or drag up to 150 pounds of equipment and /or materials.
    • Climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, stoops, stands, sits, and bends when driving or maintaining equipment.
    • Hear and see clearly when working around equipment or in traffic.
    • Works outdoors in extreme temperatures and inclement weather with some exposure to dust, fumes, noise, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards while using proper safety precautions.
