Pay
Typical hiring range is: $23.38/hr to $35.32/hr dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Schedule
- 8am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday
- 7am – 3:30pm Summer hours (Memorial Day to Labor Day)
- Overtime for snow removal and emergency events
Responsibilities
- Operate snowplow, roller, loaders, front-end loader, backhoe, scraper, tractor, bulldozers, broom, oiler trucks, dump truck, semi-trailer truck, grass mowers, asphalt patch truck, winch truck, mini-excavator, motor graders, and other equipment for the maintenance and construction of drainage systems, roadways, and bridges.
- Supervise the work of the territory truck driver while in territory.
- Provide work direction and oversight to seasonal or temporary employees when authorized, funded, and filled.
- Perform equipment preventive maintenance as outlined in the Operator Manual.
- Manage territory of approximately 90 miles (drainage, surface material, safety issues, vegetation, snow removal, culverts).
- Handle public relations, including obtaining permission for tree cutting, layback ditch cleaning, and addressing public complaints.
- Inspect drainage structures and report condition.
- Work off-hours to assist during emergencies.
- Report damage or missing traffic signs.
- Maintain daily records, timesheets, maps, daily activity reports, work orders, leave requests, and preventive maintenance documentation.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Meet the requirements of Heavy Equipment Operator I.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver License with tanker endorsement, manual transmission, air brake, and combination vehicles.
- Must be insurable under Saline County’s fleet insurance policy.
- At least one (1) year experience operating a motor grader. A certificate from a vocational-technical school may substitute for equipment experience.
- Previous verifiable experience may be accepted at the discretion of the Administrator.
- Able to work without supervision.
- Good public relation skills.
- Able to operate a tractor and mower.
- Physically able to perform the job, including lifting 75 lbs.
Physical Requirements
- Determined Work Level: Level 4 Heavy Work – exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly.
- Eye/hand/foot coordination sufficient to drive vehicle.
- Ability to use one or both legs and/or feet to move controls on machinery or equipment.
- Fine and gross manual dexterity to operate hand tools and equipment necessary to perform general labor duties.
- Ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
- Job performance and/or safety demands being able to see clearly 20 feet or more.
