About the role
MWH Constructors is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator (Track Excavator) to support a critical wastewater treatment plant construction project in Austin, Texas.
Essential functions
- Safe operation of excavator/backhoe/forklift
- Build level and excavate land surfaces using graders and other construction equipment
- Knowledge of the excavator/backhoe loading requirements; load charts; critical picks
- Perform duties with an awareness to avoid overloading, obstruction of equipment movement, working with overhead utilities, etc.
- Operate and maintain window aeration/composting relating equipment
- Maintain daily temperature of compost
- Prepare soil samples to send laboratory
- Change, adjust, replace and/or sludge spreading implements
- Effectively communicate to all site personnel
- Maintain daily logs of equipment usage, maintenance, etc.
- Daily maintenance of equipment
- Identify, report, and correct hazards
- Perform tasks maintaining all health, safety and environmental rules and ensure all work is done in a manner which enhances the safety of the work environment
Qualifications
- 1–3 years’ experience as a heavy equipment operator
- Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, load charts, and procedure manuals
- Working knowledge of equipment capabilities and limitations
- AWWA and/or large diameter/large bore piping
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent (documentation must be provided at time of application)
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to understand technical instructions
- Knowledge of load-bearing capabilities of all equipment
- Good understanding of fluid mechanics and all of the components involved in these processes
- If requested, the applicant shall furnish a written statement from a medical doctor that he/she has had a physical examination in connection with the application, and is physically fit to perform the work
- Required to communicate information, ideas, directions with the capability to perform the task or project discussed
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory and with utmost regard for safety
- Pre-employment drug screening and background checks required
