About the role

MWH Constructors is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator (Track Excavator) to support a critical wastewater treatment plant construction project in Austin, Texas.

Essential functions

  • Safe operation of excavator/backhoe/forklift
  • Build level and excavate land surfaces using graders and other construction equipment
  • Knowledge of the excavator/backhoe loading requirements; load charts; critical picks
  • Perform duties with an awareness to avoid overloading, obstruction of equipment movement, working with overhead utilities, etc.
  • Operate and maintain window aeration/composting relating equipment
  • Maintain daily temperature of compost
  • Prepare soil samples to send laboratory
  • Change, adjust, replace and/or sludge spreading implements
  • Effectively communicate to all site personnel
  • Maintain daily logs of equipment usage, maintenance, etc.
  • Daily maintenance of equipment
  • Identify, report, and correct hazards
  • Perform tasks maintaining all health, safety and environmental rules and ensure all work is done in a manner which enhances the safety of the work environment

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years’ experience as a heavy equipment operator
  • Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, load charts, and procedure manuals
  • Working knowledge of equipment capabilities and limitations
  • AWWA and/or large diameter/large bore piping
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (documentation must be provided at time of application)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to understand technical instructions
  • Knowledge of load-bearing capabilities of all equipment
  • Good understanding of fluid mechanics and all of the components involved in these processes
  • If requested, the applicant shall furnish a written statement from a medical doctor that he/she has had a physical examination in connection with the application, and is physically fit to perform the work
  • Required to communicate information, ideas, directions with the capability to perform the task or project discussed
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory and with utmost regard for safety
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background checks required
