Minimum Qualifications
- Operates a variety of heavy equipment including preventive maintenance.
- Daily operation of equipment includes: three-wheel street brooms, specialized trash machines, large farm/beach tractors, beach sanitizer machines, tracked and wheeled skid steer loaders.
- Occasional equipment can include: loaders, excavators, backhoes, tankers, flatbeds, snowplows, dump trucks, etc.
- Performs maintenance worker duties when not acting as a heavy equipment operator.
- Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functions of the Town streets, beach and boardwalk areas, including support of numerous special events.
- Includes some lifting of heavy items with and without assistance.
- Work schedules vary but include nights, weekends, and holidays throughout the year.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- At least one (1) year of driving experience with a Valid CDL commercial class “A” driver’s license with endorsement for “Air Brakes”.
- A current DOT physical card.
- One (1) year of satisfactory paid employment in the operation of automotive equipment, trucks, or equipment used in this position.
Preferred: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Other Skills and Abilities
- Ability to pass a physical examination.
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Write routine maintenance reports and brief correspondence.
- Communicate with the general public and employees.
Reasoning Ability
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
- Regularly stand, walk, hear, and smell.
- Frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.
- Occasional exposure to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles.
- Near constant exposure to noise level in the work environment.
