Heavy Equipment Operator I

Amentum is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator north of Las Vegas, NV. Under indirect supervision of the Site Superintendent and/or a HEO-Lead, you will exercise independent judgment to accomplish assigned tasks.

About the role

Operates heavy equipment such as cranes, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials. You may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, grease, adjust, and make emergency repairs to equipment.

Responsibilities

• Ensures work is in compliance with government regulations and all building codes; provides material requirement listings in a government-acceptable format.
• Maintains required readings, records, and documentation.
• Operates equipment and machinery related to HEO duties, including crushers and chip spreaders.
• Researches and identifies road surface requirements; calculates material requirements for road preservation.
• Provides leadership to independent work groups for task accomplishment.
• Ensures quality control standards are maintained on all work performed.
• Promotes safe work practices and procedures in independent and small work groups.
• Operates general and special-purpose vehicles.
• Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models, schematics, or verbal instructions using measuring instruments and standard shop computations.
• Performs related duties as assigned by the Site Superintendent or HEO-Lead.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years of experience as a heavy equipment operator, acquired through training, formal apprenticeship, or equivalent.
• Must pass a practical skills test on equipment including backhoe, bulldozer, scraper, road grader, and front-end loader.
• Valid Nevada Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Fluent in English with strong written and verbal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good judgment, common sense, and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Punctuality and patience to work under stressful conditions.
• Problem-solving skills to identify and address areas requiring immediate attention.

Work Environment

• Work is conducted outdoors with exposure to extreme climatic conditions.
• Requires lifting up to 50 lbs., stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, and sitting.
• Potential exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents; use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
• Compliance with OSHA, EPA, Fire, and Safety Regulations and company work rules.
• May require temporary duty travel and interaction with fellow employees.
• May require working different or varying shifts.

Pay

$41.62 per hour. The compensation range or hourly rate listed is a good-faith estimate; actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
