About the role

The City of Bangor Public Works Department seeks motivated, skilled professionals to join our team as Heavy Equipment Operators. Core responsibilities include operating a variety of trucks and heavy equipment to support Public Works operations, using standard hand tools, and performing construction and paving activities.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of trucks and heavy equipment to support Public Works operations
• Use standard hand tools in the performance of daily task assignments
• Support excavation and installation of municipal infrastructure
• Pave preparations for streets and sidewalks
• Pave streets and sidewalks
• Maintain street signage
• Maintain pavement markings
• Perform street sweeping
• Perform plowing, salting, and snow removal
• Other operational tasks as needed

Requirements

• A State of Maine Class B driver's license, with a Class A license preferred
• Operation of plow, salt, sand, and dump trucks, along with various other types of heavy equipment

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience operating heavy equipment
• Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
• Knowledge of traffic control devices and procedures
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong communication skills

Skills

• Proficiency in operating a skid steer, loader, backhoe, excavator, grader, transit & tenths rod
• Experience in work zone setup

Pay

The salary range for this position is $22.67 to $26.25 per hour. Starting pay will be determined within this range based on the applicant’s experience and verified job-related competencies.
