Saiia Construction, a MasTec company, is seeking skilled Heavy Equipment Operators (Excavator & Dozer) for premier quarry operations in Calera, AL. MSHA certification is preferred but not required—training and certification will be provided.

About the Role

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, graders, dump trucks, front-end loaders, compactors, scrapers, and water trucks to move materials to and from designated areas. You will participate in required training and ensure compliance with all established safety rules, procedures, policies, OSHA, and MSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Excavator Operation:
    • Operate excavators to dig holes, trenches, and transport earth, gravel, sand, ore, rock, and industrial byproducts.
    • Start engines and control hydraulic shovels or attachments to move materials into stockpiles or transport trucks.
    • Dig trenches and holes to specified dimensions, remove loosened material, and load it into trucks.
    • Utilize GPS grade technology as required.
  • Bulldozer & Grader Operation:
    • Operate bulldozers or graders to level, distribute, and move soil, sand, ore, rock, gravel, and industrial byproducts.
    • Clear trees and rocks to prepare sites for construction projects.
    • Attach and maneuver diverse tools using clevis or wedge-pin hitches.
    • Use levers and pedals to control blades and attachments, ensuring proper depth and grade.
    • Perform successive passes to achieve specified terrain elevations.
    • Utilize GPS grade technology as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, MSHA, and other state/federal regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Proficiency in using email, smartphones, tablets, or computers for company documentation.
  • Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must maintain acceptable attendance standards per the employee handbook.
  • Approach work meticulously, thoroughly, and in a timely manner.

  • Vision Abilities: Close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing Abilities: Must hear equipment signals, horns, alarms, radio, and phone communications.

Night shift: 4:45 PM – 3:00 AM.
