Heavy Equipment Operator - CDL A
Pay rate: $28.00+ per hour (DOE)
About the role
We are seeking experienced CDL Class A Drivers and Heavy Equipment Operators for ongoing dirt work and excavation projects in the Colorado Springs area. Candidates must have experience operating end-dump trailers, high-side trailers, large excavators, and loaders in a construction or earthwork environment. Successful candidates will be safety-focused, reliable, and able to obtain access to military installations.
Responsibilities
CDL Class A Driver Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles, including end-dump and high-side trailers
- Transport dirt, aggregate, and construction materials to and from project sites
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Maintain DOT compliance and required driving documentation
- Secure loads and ensure safe transportation practices
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and job site personnel
- Report vehicle maintenance issues, accidents, or safety concerns immediately
- Adhere to all FMCSA, DOT, and company safety regulations
Heavy Equipment Operator Responsibilities
- Operate large excavators and wheel loaders for dirt work and site preparation
- Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material handling activities
- Read and understand site plans, grades, and construction specifications
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks
- Work safely around utilities, structures, and other heavy equipment
- Maintain production goals while adhering to all safety standards
- Assist with general site work as needed
Requirements
CDL Driver Requirements
- Valid CDL Class A license required
- Current DOT Medical Card required
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record meeting insurability standards
- Minimum 3 years of commercial driving experience preferred
- Experience hauling dirt, aggregate, or construction materials preferred
Equipment Operator Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating large excavators and loaders
- Dirt work, grading, excavation, and site development experience required
- Valid driver's license required
- Ability to safely work around underground utilities and active construction projects
Additional Requirements For All Candidates
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen
- Must be eligible to obtain access to military installations and government facilities
- Reliable transportation to and from job sites
- Strong commitment to workplace safety
Skills
- Experience operating end-dump and/or high-side trailers
- Experience operating large excavators and loaders in earthwork applications
- Strong understanding of construction site safety procedures
- Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment

Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Climb into and out of equipment and commercial vehicles throughout the day
- Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to safely perform duties on active construction sites
Continuous (5-8 hours) physical demands include: lifting moderate (15-44 lbs) and light (14 lbs & under) weights, carrying heavy (45 lbs & over), moderate, and light weights, pushing/pulling, reaching above shoulder, at shoulder, and below shoulder, twisting, bending, kneeling/crawling, squatting, climbing (stairs and ladders), hearing, close and distant vision, depth perception, simple grasping, fine manipulation, repetitive movements, walking, standing, sitting, and speaking.
