Heavy Equipment Operator

About the role

Operate heavy equipment at a recycling facility, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operation inspection of equipment to ensure windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view camera are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklift, excavator, bulldozer, front-end loader, and other machinery using proper safety standards.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor equipment condition to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
• Perform and document minor service on equipment; refer complex mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
• Complete Equipment Condition Report and other necessary reports; report repairs to supervisor as needed.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the completion of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
• Maintain a positive work environment by communicating effectively with customers, clients, vendors, co-workers, and management.

Requirements

• Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
• Good time management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Strong follow-through ability; adheres to work schedule and addresses challenges as they arise.
• Ability to adhere to Company policies and safety standards; avoids inappropriate risks.
• Takes pride in work and strives to achieve all goals.
