Heavy Equipment Operator

Southland Holdings is currently accepting resumes for highly motivated construction workers to join our team as an Equipment Operator. We are seeking local Equipment Operators with solid construction experience for a large heavy highway project in West Texas. Paid every Friday.

Responsibilities

• Safe operation of Bull Dozer and Excavator/Trackhoe
• Handling and/or moving material
• Maintain daily logs of equipment usage and maintenance
• Identify, report, and correct hazards
• Perform tasks while maintaining all health, safety, and environmental rules, enhancing safety of the work environment
• Read locate sheets and identify possible underground and/or overhead utilities
• Apply analytical and problem‑solving skills

Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience operating heavy equipment in a high‑traffic environment
• Physically capable of navigating rugged terrain
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
• Knowledge of sub‑base materials, aggregation placement, and compaction
• Understanding of workplace safety requirements and procedures (backing up, flagmen, spotters, signage, incident reporting, personal safety equipment, lifting heavy loads)
• Familiarity with underground and overhead services and articulation
• Ability to work independently and maintain a work schedule
• Knowledge of excavator/backhoe loading requirements, load charts, and critical picks
• Pass post‑offer drug screen

Desired qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience operating heavy equipment in a high‑traffic environment
• OSHA safety training
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
