About the role

Savage Services is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator at our Pueblo, CO operation. The operator will safely perform tasks required to operate the coal handling system, operate industrial mobile equipment, unload railcars, and perform general maintenance on equipment and facilities at a coal-fired power plant.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy industrial equipment (D9, D10, 854K Rubber tire dozer) for stockpiling coal, maintaining roads, applying dust suppression, etc.
• Execute general maintenance on mobile equipment, conveyor systems, crushers, and train unloading systems.
• Operate a locomotive, perform switching, and ground work (training provided).
• Unload railcars (bottom dump).
• Actively participate in Savage’s safety programs.
• Perform daily inspections of equipment for safety and operational deficiencies.
• Perform basic tasks in the operation of the coal handling system.

Requirements

• Experience operating dozers, front-end loaders, excavators, and other heavy equipment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Positive, forward-thinking, safety-minded attitude.
• Willingness to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English, follow instructions, and possess basic math and computer skills.
• Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, adhere to work schedules, focus on details, and follow work rules.

Physical Requirements

• Work in environments containing coal dust, hazardous noise, confined spaces, and hot or cold temperatures.
• Comfortable working with heights, climbing stairs, and climbing ladders.
• Walk on uneven ground up to 3 miles per shift.
• Pass a fit test and pulmonary function test for respirator use, with annual or as-needed recertification.
• Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

Pay

$24.00–$31.00 per hour (based on experience).

Schedule

Full-time position with a 4 on / 4 off rotation, alternating between day and night shifts every two weeks. 12-hour shifts: 6:00 AM–6:00 PM or 6:00 PM–6:00 AM.
