About the Role
Join a family-owned business where people and culture matter! We are seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for a Monday through Friday, first shift position. The role involves safely transferring materials, loading and unloading trucks and rail cars, assisting customers, and sorting materials. Skid steer experience is required.
Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently handle the loading and unloading of various commodities by following proper procedures and utilizing appropriate equipment.
- Adhere to safety standards to minimize risks and maintain a safe working environment.
- Understand quality requirements for customer or material being loaded, ensuring proper procedures and precautions are followed.
- Thoroughly and accurately complete inspection reports, documenting all relevant details and findings.
- Follow directions on load sheets, complying with loading procedures, stacking guidelines, and other handling instructions.
- Communicate with inspectors on non-conforming loads, providing clear information and collaborating to resolve issues.
- Comply with all work instructions to ensure safety and smooth operation.
Requirements
- One to two years of related experience.
- Ability to interact professionally with customers.
- Knowledgeable about the company’s products, services, and customer-related policies.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Works well independently and with others.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to solve problems as they arise.
- Ability to work under pressure and follow instructions from supervisors.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery and complete safety awareness training.
- Ability to handle equipment and vehicles safely and sensibly.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Basic computer skills.
- Thorough understanding of the product and/or process being inspected.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Able to complete physically demanding work.
- Good hand-eye-foot coordination and sense of balance.
- Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
- Must be able to perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms and legs and moving the entire body (e.g., climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, stooping).
- Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
- Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time.
- Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery.
Visual & Audio Requirements
- Must be able to visually inspect machines.
- Excellent depth perception and reaction time.
- Visual acuity to follow hand signals, maintain logs, and inspect and maintain machinery.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to wear protective equipment for eyes and ears.
- Dexterity and accuracy as needed to operate testing equipment or gauges.
- Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Ability to maintain single-task focus and situational awareness.
