Heavy Equipment Operator

About the role

Operate a hydraulic grapple or magnetic crane to lift, sort, load, or unload scrap metal and debris in preparation for processing operations. Load and unload containers and trailers, and move heavy scrap metal of varying sizes and weights around the work area. This position works outside in varying weather conditions. SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Responsibilities

• Basic sorting of scrap, metal, and debris in preparation for processing.
• Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
• Operate a hydraulic grapple or magnetic crane to lift, sort, load, or unload scrap metal and debris.
• Perform daily inspections on equipment and report any defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
• Determine load weights and verify against lifting capacities to prevent overloads and dangerous situations.
• Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, and SA Recycling safety, health, and environmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

• High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent work experience.
• Must pass a required background check, drug screen, and physical.
• Experience in the operation of a Caterpillar, Sennebogen, or Grapple crane. Previous hydraulic crane experience preferred.
• Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a plus.
• Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to learn new tasks as assigned.
