About the role
Operate heavy equipment in support of University department projects, gravel pit operations, and utility repairs. Perform maintenance, construction, and repair activities related to campus streets, roads, parking lots, and parking garages. Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of street signage and pavement markings. Assist with snow and ice removal on campus streets, roads, parking lots, parking garages, and airport facilities.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment (e.g., backhoe, bulldozer, 1½ ton trucks, front-end loader) for campus projects and utility repairs
- Maintain and repair campus streets, roads, parking lots, and parking garages
- Install, maintain, and repair street signage and pavement markings
- Perform snow and ice removal on campus streets, roads, parking lots, parking garages, and airport facilities
- Conduct preventative maintenance on heavy equipment
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 4+ years of relevant work experience operating heavy equipment
- Valid US Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) within 90 days of hire
- Ability to maintain a CDL license, including successful completion of required medical examinations
- Ability to obtain Competent Person Certification for excavations
- FAA Certification in Airport Safety and Snow Removal
- Able to lift and carry objects up to 100 lbs. frequently
- Ability to work outdoors 90% of the time or more in all weather conditions
- Frequent climbing in and out of equipment daily
- Extreme visual concentration and manual dexterity for equipment operation
- Knowledge of campus buildings and locations preferred
