Operates heavy equipment in support of MER’s four core service lines: Emergency Response, Industrial and Marine Services, Facility Decontamination, and Site Remediation. Ensures strict compliance with corporate policies, health and safety protocols, and all local, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
- Execute field work on remediation and industrial maintenance projects under direct and indirect supervision.
- Perform Field Technician duties when business needs require it.
- Complete all required MER paperwork: Timesheets, Daily Work Reports, Driver’s Logs, Pre/Post Vehicle Inspections, and Daily Tailgate Safety Meeting Forms.
- Enforce project scope-of-work, contract documents, schedules, and corporate policies.
- Work safely in all phases of field operations.
- Perform tasks in confined or awkward spaces (squatting, crawling) for extended periods.
- Follow directions; read, speak, and understand English; interpret safety placards, labels, and site safety plans.
- Safely operate and perform safety checks on licensed equipment (Excavator, Loader, Dozer, Skid Steer, etc.).
- Travel out of town for up to two weeks or more as project demands.
- Work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions and in extreme environments (heat, cold, heights, hazardous chemicals, loud noises, dangerous equipment, long hours).
- Handle physical demands: standing, walking, crouching, heavy lifting (up to 50+ lbs), and prolonged physical activity.
- Maintain a clean-shaven appearance to ensure proper respirator seal.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent reading, writing, and reasoning skills).
- 2–3 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
- Preferred: additional experience in emergency response, manual labor, construction, or industrial cleaning.
- Preferred: valid Class “B” or “A” Commercial Driver’s License with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
- Preferred: TWIC credential.
- OSHA 40-HR HAZWOPER and Confined Space Entry certifications required within the first 30 days of employment.
- Pass pre-employment background check, substance screening, employment verifications, criminal search, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) search; continued compliance throughout employment.
