H&K Group, Inc. – Pikes Creek Division is seeking an experienced and motivated Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in Hunlock Creek, PA. This role involves operating heavy equipment to meet daily production goals while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and efficiency.
About the role
The Heavy Equipment Operator will perform tasks adhering to OSHA and H&K Safety policies, ensuring equipment is operated safely and maintained in proper working condition.
Responsibilities
- Performs all work adhering to OSHA and H&K Safety policies
- Operates heavy equipment by moving levers and pedals to control function and movement
- Monitors engine performance to operate equipment efficiently
- Cleans equipment as scheduled and ensures safe, secure parking and storage
- Maintains equipment by greasing and checking fluids daily (oils, coolant, fuel level)
- Performs daily equipment checks to ensure proper operating condition
- Notifies shop foreman of maintenance or repair needs
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school OR six months of related experience and/or training
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
- Able to pass a practical skills test for heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, loaders)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to understand and follow detailed written or oral instructions
- Problem-solving skills
- Ability to fit test and utilize appropriate PPE as needed
- Meets physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to the job)
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of related experience and/or training
- Experience in heavy civil construction, road construction, or quarries
- OSHA or other relevant safety certifications
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to: sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear
- Occasionally required to: stand, walk, climb, and balance; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision requirements: distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to: outside weather conditions, vibration
- Frequently exposed to: fumes or airborne particles
- Occasionally exposed to: moving mechanical parts
- Noise level is usually loud
