Heavy Equipment Operator
About the Role
Amentum is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to support missions at our Fort Bliss, Texas location. The role involves operating heavy equipment safely and effectively to minimize risk and perform tasks such as rail support movements.
Responsibilities
- Operate equipment in a safe and effective manner, including Forklift (10k or higher), RTCH (Kalmar) 50k, and various military equipment.
- Perform daily Preventive Maintenance Checks (PMCS) on equipment prior to operation and at the completion of mission tasks or end of shift.
- Support Unit Movement Branch tasks as directed.
- Conduct daily safety checks to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Inspect, clean, and perform operator-level maintenance on equipment in accordance with established standards.
- Interact with customers for the movement of materials and equipment.
- Follow all safety regulations, contract requirements, company policies, and operating procedures.
- Ensure equipment is properly utilized, maintained, and stored.
- Complete necessary documentation, reporting, and limited office duties.
- Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent (desirable).
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience operating heavy equipment.
- Ability to obtain a license following on-the-job training for equipment such as 10K or 12K Forklift, 50 Ton Rough Terrain Container Handler, and various Military Vehicles.
- Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Available to work different shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The role involves exposure to disagreeable fumes, cuts, bruises, and hazards from moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers. The employee is regularly required to stand, use hands, handle tools, and communicate. Frequent walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling is required, along with occasional sitting, climbing, or balancing. The employee must frequently lift items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds.
The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, high places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather, extreme cold, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is usually loud, and the role may involve questioning unsafe conditions or providing feedback on safety issues.
Other Responsibilities
- Safety: Participate in Amentum’s safety culture, including completing training, fulfilling self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities, and serving on safety committees.
- Quality: Adhere to Amentum’s Quality Policy, ensuring services meet customer expectations and comply with applicable quality system documents and contracts.
- Procedure Compliance: Read, understand, and implement operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements for the job.
Pay
$25.96 per hour.
