About the role

This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, located at 1659 E. Elm St., Jefferson City, Missouri. Work assignments span a large geographic area of Missouri, requiring travel and overnight stays during the workweek. The role involves operating medium and heavy equipment used in earthmoving, construction, and maintenance across state parks and historic sites throughout Missouri.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment including tractors, bulldozers, road graders, cranes, aerial devices, backhoes, skid steers, forklifts, dump trucks, and other heavy equipment.
  • Read, understand, follow, and complete projects using blueprints and plans.
  • Load, transport, and unload medium and heavy equipment safely and effectively.
  • Perform material estimating and make material purchases following department purchasing policies.
  • Perform manual work requiring heavy lifting, reaching, and bending.
  • Conduct minor maintenance (e.g., greasing) and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License and comply with random drug and alcohol testing.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to four to six years of on-the-job training in operating medium and heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to understand and complete assignments received orally or via written orders.
  • Ability to create and interpret sketches, penciled layouts, or blueprints.
  • Experience operating, loading, transporting, and unloading a variety of medium and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of load securement.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to travel and stay overnight during the workweek (e.g., Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights).

Schedule

Monday through Thursday (four 10-hour days per week), 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Pay

The salary range listed is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed the stated range.
