About the role

A heavy equipment/diesel mechanic performs a variety of tasks to maintain, repair, service, and construct heavy equipment. Under the direction of the Shop Manager and Vice President, the Mechanic will perform day-to-day activities including fueling and mechanics to ensure cost-effective equipment servicing and maintenance, minimizing project downtime. This position requires experience within the construction industry, the ability to prioritize, adapt to changing conditions, communicate clearly, and work under pressure. The Mechanic is responsible for effective coordination with the management team to ensure safety, quality, production, and schedule goals are met.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment to determine the extent of repairs
• Diagnose malfunctions using computerized tools and equipment
• Repair defective or worn parts, such as bearings, pistons, and gears
• Overhaul and test major components, including engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
• Perform scheduled maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating parts
• Adjust and repair grader blades and loader bucket assemblies
• Perform minor welding and brazing work
• Prepare work estimates of labor and parts costs
• Keep records and make reports
• Advise on parts and equipment selection
• Instruct operators on equipment operation and servicing
• Ensure team members' safety and well-planned service work with needed resources
• Maintain optimum productivity and operational equipment

Requirements

• Ability to work legally in the United States without employer sponsorship
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• 5 years of heavy equipment/diesel mechanic experience
• Hydraulic and cable experience
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work in physically demanding environments
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various conditions (outdoors, confined spaces, heights, etc.)
• Willingness to learn, follow safety guidelines, and work as part of a team

Pay
