About the role
We are seeking a Field Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic to join our Heavy Civil team at our Dinwiddie, VA Field Service Center. This position involves regional travel throughout Virginia to support operations teams at various job sites. The role is safety-sensitive, requiring work on construction sites with inherent hazards, and is subject to drug testing and compliance policies as a Federal Contractor.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and lubricate heavy construction equipment in the shop and at job sites.
- Troubleshoot and repair heavy trucks and construction equipment (e.g., loaders, dozers, cranes, backhoes), including removing defective parts and installing new or rebuilt components.
- Test repaired equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical systems.
- Repair hydraulic systems.
- Assist in dismantling and assembling cranes.
- Perform preventative maintenance checks and inspections.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s license (CDL B preferred).
- Minimum 3+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic in the construction industry, with expertise in troubleshooting and hydraulics.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
- Willingness to travel regionally to Virginia job sites as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level.
- Continuous standing and walking throughout a scheduled work shift.
- Ability to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
- Acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and hearing.
- Must be able to climb ladders and/or steps on equipment to access repair areas.
- Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, and crawl.
- Ability to work in dirty, greasy, noisy, cold, hot, and humid conditions.
Pay
$25.00/hr - $35.00/hr (based on experience and certifications).
