Essential Functions
- Analyzes malfunctions.
- Repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools.
- Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
- Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools.
- Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
- Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions.
- Tests and overhauls equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Welds broken parts.
- Cleans parts and assembles and disassembles equipment.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least two (2+) years’ experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
- At least two (2+) years of experience as a qualified welder.
Requirements
- A valid state Commercial Driver License (CDL) with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position, or be able to obtain a valid state CDL within 90 days of hiring.
- Maintain the CDL and an acceptable driving record during the duration of employment.
- Possess and maintain welding qualification in accordance with American Welding Society (AWS) standards for the equipment and material utilized.
Skills
- Basic to intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
Physical Demands
- Lift/carry/push/slide up to 50 pounds routinely.
- Bend, Squat, Stoop, Crouch, Lean, Sit, and Balance.
- Work with power/automated hand tools.
- Lift/carry/push/slide up to 50 pounds.
- Stand for long periods of time.
- Repeat the same movements.
- Work in an automotive repair shop around moving objects, vehicles, machinery with moving parts, and confined spaces.
Security Clearance Requirements
- Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level.
- Due to the location of this work, U.S. citizenship is required.
