Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Starting Pay: $30-$32/hr (Top Pay Will Increase Based on EXP/Qualifications) Starting Shift: Hours are 6:30am-4:30pm M-F and some Saturday work as needed. Benefits 15 days of paid time offOvertime after 40hrs worked401K after 6 months employmentHealth Benefits after 60 days Core Responsibilities Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, diesel engine, brake, and hydraulic system failures on site.Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled fluid changes, greasing, filter replacements, and safety inspections to minimize operational downtime.Welding & Fabrication: Make structural repairs, patch blades/buckets, and weld metal components on heavy machinery.Field Service: Respond to emergency breakdowns directly on the active working face of the landfill.Record Keeping: Log parts usage, repair times, and maintenance histories. Common Equipment Serviced Landfill compactorsBulldozersExcavators Motor gradersOff-road haul trucks Qualifications & Requirements Education: High school diploma or GED; vocational training or a formal apprenticeship in heavy equipment mechanics is preferred.Experience: Proven hands-on experience working as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic (3+ years preferred).Certifications: ASE Heavy Truck Certifications (T1–T8) or brand-specific training.Licenses: A valid driver's license; a Class B or Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with OSHA standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Hazard Communication (HazCom).
