About the role
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in New Haven, CT. This hands-on role involves performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, cranes, forklifts, and pay haulers. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced port environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out preventive maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Perform equipment overhauls and component replacements.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
- Achieve compliance with safety standards and company policies.
- Collaborate with team members to support operational efficiency.
- Mentor junior technicians and apprentices.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in hydraulic system repair.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in diesel engine maintenance (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull 50+ lbs, climb heavy equipment, bend, kneel, and work overhead.
- (Preferred but not required) Own basic mechanical tools.
- (Preferred but not required) CDL.
- (Preferred but not required) Basic Automotive Tire Service (ATS) certification.
- (Preferred but not required) Certified Earthmover Tire Service (ETS) certification.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
