About the role

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in New Haven, CT. This hands-on role involves performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, cranes, forklifts, and pay haulers. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced port environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventive maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Perform equipment overhauls and component replacements.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
  • Achieve compliance with safety standards and company policies.
  • Collaborate with team members to support operational efficiency.
  • Mentor junior technicians and apprentices.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in hydraulic system repair.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in diesel engine maintenance (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull 50+ lbs, climb heavy equipment, bend, kneel, and work overhead.
  • (Preferred but not required) Own basic mechanical tools.
  • (Preferred but not required) CDL.
  • (Preferred but not required) Basic Automotive Tire Service (ATS) certification.
  • (Preferred but not required) Certified Earthmover Tire Service (ETS) certification.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • On-site role with frequent fieldwork in outdoor port and industrial settings.
  • Exposure to machinery, heavy equipment, chemicals, and varying weather conditions.
  • Requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable working in environments with noise, dust, and extreme temperatures.
