HEAVY EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN II

Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
• Experience: Three years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment. One year of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy duty construction equipment and diesel engines.
• Additional Experience: Applicants may substitute additional documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
• Certification: Completion of an accredited training program for Heavy Equipment or Diesel Repair may be substituted for one and one-half years of the general experience.
• Military Service: U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
• ASE Certification: Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education. Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.

Special Requirements

• License: Employees must possess and maintain a Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
• Commercial Driver's License: Employees are required to possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland during the probationary period, depending on the type of equipment operated.
• Essential Employee: This position is considered an essential employee and is subject to all 24 hours a day, 7 days/week for inclement weather and/or other emergency events.
• Reachability: Must be reachable and respond to calls after work hours.
