Heavy Equipment & Fleet Diesel Mechanic

The Opportunity

Baseline Contracting, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment & Fleet Diesel Mechanic to join our Equipment & Fleet Maintenance team in Coplay. This position offers autonomy, stability, and premium prevailing wage contracts.

What You Will Be Doing

• Take complete ownership of asset readiness, executing complex diagnostics and structural repairs across a diverse fleet of diesel transport vehicles and heavy yellow iron.
• Advanced Diagnostics & Overhauls: Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair heavy-duty diesel engines, complex hydraulic arrays, and structural mechanical components.
• Component System Repair: Execute surgical removals and replacements of complete engines, heavy-duty transmissions, complex air and hydraulic braking systems, steering linkages, and suspension assemblies.
• Electrical System Troubleshooting: Isolate and resolve complex electrical faults, including starters, alternators, tracking down wiring shorts, lighting arrays, and electronic control modules.
• Lifecycle Maintenance Control: Implement comprehensive preventative maintenance programs to maximize asset reliability and minimize expensive field downtime.
• Maintenance Coordination: Coordinate directly with field superintendents to prioritize workflow repairs, while maintaining precise digital service records and compliance documentation.
• Operational Synchronization: Ensure smooth workflow operations by prioritizing repairs and maintaining accurate digital service records.
• Shop Stewardship: Maintain a lean, clean, and highly organized shop environment while actively contributing to our corporate safety-first work culture.

What You Need To Succeed

• Technical Tenure: 3+ years of professional experience working directly on heavy-duty commercial trucks or heavy diesel-powered construction equipment.
• System Fluency: Comprehensive, functional knowledge of complex diesel engines, high-pressure hydraulic circuits, and heavy powertrain tracking.
• Technical Literacy: Advanced capability to read, interpret, and cross-reference industrial service manuals, wiring schematics, and digital diagnostic data.
• Physical Stamina: Physically capable of lifting and maneuvering heavy powertrain components, while working comfortably in both an active shop and outdoor field service environments.
• Licensure: A valid Driver’s License is strictly required.
• Assets: Possession of technical trade certifications, formal manufacturer training, or welding experience is a significant advantage.
• Market Traction: Mechanics possessing cross-functional capabilities across both heavy civil yellow iron (excavators, pavers, automated slipform concrete machinery) and vocational transport trucks (Class 8) are in the top 5th percentile of demand in Eastern Pennsylvania, driving excellent long-term career stability.
