Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic
About the role
The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, overhauling, and testing major components of heavy construction equipment, including engines, fuel elements, hydraulics, and electrical systems. This position involves traveling to worksites to fix equipment issues, ensuring crews can continue major projects.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, overhaul, and test major components of heavy equipment using computerized tools and equipment.
- Accurately troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment, read and apply mechanical, electrical, fuel, and hydraulic schematics.
- Perform scheduled maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating parts.
- Remove, repair, and install major heavy equipment components in various configurations.
- Service truck trailers and maintain equipment inspection and service logs daily.
- Maintain tools in good working order according to OSHA regulations.
- Participate in ongoing safety training and initiatives, maintaining a commitment to the highest safety standards.
- Check primary email regularly for company communications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Three to five years of maintenance experience servicing and repairing trucks and heavy construction equipment, including scrapers, skid steers, bulldozers, excavators, and backhoes.
- Significant experience with and ability to work on several makes and models of equipment, especially Caterpillar, Komatsu, and John Deere.
- Ability to prioritize effectively, work independently, manage time, multitask, and manage stress.
- Highly effective communicator with the ability to interact professionally with vendors, customers, coworkers, and leadership.
- CDL Class B endorsement or higher, or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
- Own basic hand tools.
- Good driving record to operate company vehicles.
- Willingness and ability to adapt to scheduling needs.
- Ability to pass pre- and post-employment drug screening and work history verification.
- Ability to do and understand basic math equations.
Preferred
- Able to clearly explain steps and provide clear directions.
- Able to complete and answer questions about the construction processes for field staff and other subcontractors.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Potential exposure to extreme cold and hot temperatures, manufacturing, pipeline, and refining environments, confined spaces, areas with limited visibility, noise above 85 decibels, and intense odors. Compliance with safety regulations, PPE requirements, and Loenbro's EH&S policies is required.
