Heavy Equipment Field Lube Service Technician

Experience in a similar role and environment (minimum six months) and the ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English are required. Safety must be prioritized. Candidates must successfully complete a skills assessment (eTRAIN test), hold a valid driver’s license, demonstrate excellent client service skills, and own/maintain required personal tools.

Strongly Preferred: At least five years of heavy equipment technician experience, preferably in a dealership environment, and Caterpillar work experience.

About the Role

Perform required equipment lubrication and maintenance operations at client job sites. Inspect equipment professionally and sell lubrication services when called upon.

Responsibilities

• Performs field lubrication and inspection duties with primary focus on safety, accuracy, and economy.
• Helps plan and control lube and preventative maintenance jobs.
• Assists lead in analyzing client requirements and determining job scope.
• Alerts Empire teams about potential parts, service, or sales opportunities.
• Ensures trucks are topped with oil and emptied of waste oil at the end of each shift.
• Maintains good client relations and supports corporate marketing objectives.
• Writes accurate and concise equipment condition reports.
• Prepares service reports and processes oil cards with proper quantities and types of oil used.
• Performs lube services strictly by CAT Lube and Maintenance Guides for each machine.
• Follows proper warm-up and sample drop procedures.
• Maintains company equipment—keeps it clean and orderly; reports repair/replacement needs to supervisor.
• Works safely at all times; adheres to all applicable safety policies and company standards.
• Keeps in-house personnel informed about service dates, discrepancies, machine condition, and suggested actions.
• Gathers information from walk-around inspections and reports to client/management.
• Communicates equipment condition, problems, and recommendations orally and in writing.
• Maintains current MSHA card if required by work area.
• Provides on-the-job training as assigned; works overtime and travels to remote locations as needed.
• Clarifies instructions or discusses job scope/progress with appropriate individuals.
• Works within and promotes corporate values.

Requirements

• Demonstrated technical skill competence.
• Ability to obtain Hazardous Material Endorsement (requires fingerprint background check from the State).
• Ability to comply with DOT CDL requirements.
• Appropriate manner, conduct, and grooming adhering to company policy.
• Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively.
• Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Maintain current driver’s license with valid CDL (varies by site).
• Ability to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit, use hands, talk, or hear.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, and kneel.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, and peripheral vision.
• May be required to operate a forklift with appropriate certification(s).
• Designated as a "Safety-Sensitive Position" (tasks that could affect the safety or health of the employee or others).

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, high/precarious places, and outside weather conditions.
• Frequently exposed to wet/humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
