Heavy Civil Superintendent
About the Role
As a Senior Superintendent, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our construction projects on the Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP), a $3.3BN Design Build project—the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The project scope includes a 9-mile section of the I-64, featuring a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing (8 lanes), replacement of existing marine approach bridges, and the addition of a third lane in each direction. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second-largest TBM tunnel opening in North America.
Collaborate with industry experts and committed teams to ensure project compliance with contract drawings and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Plan work methods, materials, equipment needs, and work schedules for assigned project work.
- Review daily work schedules with direct reports and update monthly schedules based on project feedback.
- Review and understand project specifications to support job setup activities.
- Work with crews, field engineers, and local utility companies to identify hazardous areas on job sites.
- Coordinate across multiple job sites and project plans as needed.
- Ensure project work is equipped with appropriate materials and equipment to complete production within budget and schedule by collaborating with internal teams and external vendors.
- Forecast work schedules to identify potential issues and provide technical or scheduling recommendations to mitigate production risks.
- Provide technical input to resolve project risks, including construction methods, work plans, material requirements, safety, and scheduling.
- Document daily activities and meeting notes using company-approved methods.
- Promote strict adherence to safety and process controls for equipment operation, worksite safety, and documentation.
- Supervise sub-contractor production and workforce for assigned project work.
- Recommend adjustments to work schedules or methods regarding sub-contractor activities as needed.
Requirements
- 10+ years of heavy civil construction experience required.
- 7+ years of construction management experience required.
- Bachelor’s Degree a plus.
- Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Proven leadership capability with a drive to mentor and grow internal talent.
- Ability to manage difficult schedules and project demands while maintaining strict adherence to project safety programs.
- Advanced knowledge of construction site equipment operation and maintenance requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of construction site safety protocols and ability to enforce project safety programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of local union or prevailing wage rules.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standards and contract-specific plans and specifications.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

Pay
Salary range: USD $160,000.00 – $180,000.00 per year.
