Heavy Civil Field Engineer II

This position includes three 'steps' (I, II, and Senior), allowing for progression based on skill and experience. Step II is for employees with 2 years of experience in this role or experience on larger, more complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Project Engineer with technical information, including responding to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders.
  • Assists in writing change orders, RFIs, meeting minutes, and reviewing submittals.
  • Develops and maintains as-built drawings and assists with submittals, change orders, RFIs, and budget forecasting.
  • Ensures timely generation, collection, distribution, storage, retrieval, and disposition of meeting agendas, RFIs, and daily reports.
  • Administers the project quality management plan and reinforces a culture of safety.
  • May assist in calculating daily production rates and unit costs for self-performed work.
  • Participates in risk management, including identification, analysis, response planning, and monitoring.
  • Demonstrates competency in environmental control processes and takes corrective actions when necessary.
  • May oversee/manage BIM (Building Information Modeling) coordination between subcontractors and designers.
  • May handle documentation and submittal for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
  • May create and update Digital Record Drawings (ORD).
  • May provide lines, grades, and layout for the project while maintaining an organized logbook.
  • May track and report weekly quantities, maintaining accurate logs in compliance with the cost control manual.
  • Performs budgeting and cost-control processes to ensure the project stays within the approved budget.
  • Demonstrates business acumen within the area of responsibility.
  • Provides support to superintendents for work execution and assists in resolving field problems.

Requirements

  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and communicate effectively with others.
  • Four-year construction-related degree or equivalent technical/field experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Physical Requirements

  • May stoop, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis.
  • Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects frequently.
  • Will interact with people and technology frequently during a shift.
  • Will lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis.
  • Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for the entire duration of a shift.
  • Will use telephone, computer systems, email, and other electronic devices frequently to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
