Heat Plant Supervisor - Pueblo

About the role

This position provides oversight and supervision to the Southern District Heat Plant. It involves operating and maintaining facilities' physical plant equipment, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and managing staff.

Responsibilities

• Schedules staff work assignments, assigns project work, and sets work expectations.
• Re-allocates plant personnel for alternate job assignments facility wide during Natural gas operations.
• Obtains Department staff for after-hours, weekend, holiday, etc. call-back maintenance work as needed.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates employee performance evaluations and mid-year reviews.
• Makes productivity goals and monitors staff productivity.
• Trains employees to maintain industry standards, including safety aspects.
• Provides documentation for recommended corrective and disciplinary actions.
• Addresses employee complaints and resolves grievances.
• Interviews applicants, recommends hires, promotions, or transfers.
• Operates, tests, and maintains diesel-powered emergency electric generators.
• Ensures proper PPE is utilized.
• Executes general work order maintenance when staffing demands don't require two or more operators.
• Ensures proper plant cleanliness.
• Troubleshoots and repairs plant machinery and systems.
• Notifies night truck mechanics or trade shop supervisors of immediate attention needed situations.
• Answers phones from building tenants during 2nd and 3rd shifts.
• Manages heat plant budget allocations per fiscal year.
• Maintains and manages budget resources and procurement card transactions.
• Monitors and manages vendor contracts for the southern district Heat Plant.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• A valid Stationary Engineer License “A”, American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE) license or equivalent.
• Six years of work experience in boiler operations, two of which must be at the journey level.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supervising a 24/7 heat plant.
• Previous high-pressure coal-fired steam boiler operations and maintenance experience.
• Relevant years of state experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current Colorado residency at the time of application and throughout employment.
• Valid non-restricted Colorado driver’s license.
• Pass a full pre-employment criminal background check.
• Pass a motor vehicle check.
• Pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
• Be available for shift work.
• Willingness to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a medical or religious exemption.
• Ability to work in various hours for coverage, weather-related issues, and essential/emergency services outside of normal business hours.

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Stationary Engineer License “A”, ASOPE license or equivalent.
• Must be willing to travel to facilities in a state vehicle.
• Must be available for shift work.
• Must be willing to work various hours for coverage, weather-related issues, and essential/emergency services outside of normal business hours.

Schedule

Primary shift is Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm. As the heat plant supervisor, this position is responsible for ensuring essential and/or emergency services of the agency are met and the 24/7 operations of the heat plant are staffed accordingly.

Proximity to moving, mechanical parts, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to electrical shock, and exposure to high exposed places.
