About the role
The Health Care Technician (HCT) supports the licensed nursing staff by performing personal care and hygiene needs for assigned patient groups. They also facilitate communication and serve as a public relations liaison for the unit.
Qualifications
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Education: H.S. Diploma/GED
- Work Experience: At least one semester of nursing clinical experience; Worked as CNA within past 24 months; Successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program; Relevant medical military training; Completion of CNA coursework within past 24 months
Responsibilities
- Maintain unit supplies to ensure smooth unit function, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies, and making up charts.
- Collect data on assigned patients as directed by Registered Nurse (RN) and ensure accurate documentation.
- Demonstrate competency in selected psychomotor skills as outlined in the skills checklist including: measurement of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and measuring and recording intake and output.
- Perform or assist patients with activities of daily living, prepare patients for transportation, and perform delegated tasks such as: obtaining vital signs, glucose monitoring, hygiene care, ambulation, repositioning patients, sending lab samples.
- Provide emotional support to patients and family members and perform purposeful hourly rounding on assigned patients while marking initials on white board upon exiting patient room.
- Absorb and document patient care delivery per unit expectations/pass chart audit with no more than 2 deficits.
- Assist with bone marrow aspirations as needed with physicians.
- Complete delegated tasks in a timely manner and report any abnormal findings to the RN as soon as possible.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $17.89 per hour - $28.98 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
