Healthcare Tech- Inpatient Orthopedics
About the role
The Healthcare Tech (HCT) supports the licensed nursing staff by performing activities related to the personal care and hygiene needs of an assigned patient group. They facilitate communication with various departments, visitors, patients, medical staff, and employees. Additionally, they serve as the public relations liaison for the unit.
Responsibilities
- Maintain unit supplies to ensure the smooth function of the unit, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies, and making up charts.
- Collect data on assigned patients as directed by the Registered Nurse (RN) and ensure accurate documentation.
- Demonstrate competency in selected psychomotor skills as outlined in the skills checklist, including: measurement of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and measuring and recording intake and output.
- If applicable, complete annual education as assigned to comply with DNV Hip and Knee Replacement Program requirements.
- Obtain and document vital signs, intake/output, and blood glucoses for monitoring.
- Bathe patients with both bath wipes and CHG cloths.
- Practice proper body mechanics for transfers and ambulating ortho patients using walkers, lift machines, crutches, canes, and platform walkers.
- Operate Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machine for total knee replacement patients.
- Hourly round on patients and assist with activities of daily living.
Qualifications
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Education: H.S. Diploma/GED
Skills
Proven ability to perform tasks related to the personal care and hygiene needs of patients, including bathing, transferring, and ambulating patients. Proficiency in operating medical equipment such as CPM machines and knowledge of basic psychomotor skills.

Pay
The compensation range for this position is $17.89 per hour - $28.98 per hour.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is typically full-time, with hours to be determined based on departmental needs.
