About The Role
As a Healthcare QA Engineer – API Testing | HL7 FHIR Specialist, you will make an impact by validating complex, API-driven healthcare integrations supporting the CMS Burden Reduction and CMS Interoperability initiatives. You will be a valued member of the Quality Engineering team and work collaboratively with Product Owners, Architects, Developers, and Program Leadership to ensure regulatory compliance, data integrity, and high-quality end-to-end system integrations.
Responsibilities
- Own and execute end-to-end API and integration testing for CMS Burden Reduction and Interoperability initiatives
- Validate HL7 FHIR–based REST APIs, including payloads, schemas, headers, authentication, and error handling
- Perform deep API validation across upstream and downstream systems and external integration partners
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance across complex healthcare API workflows
- Contribute to test strategy during PI Planning, including scenarios, dependencies, risks, and regression impact
- Participate in Agile and SAFe ceremonies, including Pre-PI Planning, PI Planning, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, system demos, and release retrospectives
- Design, automate, and execute end-to-end test scenarios (positive, negative, and integration-focused)
- Define and review acceptance criteria using GIVEN–WHEN–THEN format
- Estimate testing effort for assigned features and support integrated test environment setup
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage defects, support post-production validation, and provide test evidence for feature acceptance
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in end-to-end and integration Quality Assurance roles
- Strong, hands-on experience with API testing (required)
- Extensive experience using Postman for API validation
- Strong knowledge of HL7 FHIR, healthcare interoperability, and CMS Burden Reduction initiatives
- Experience testing REST APIs across complex, distributed systems
- Hands-on experience with Playwright for API and UI integration testing
- Experience using Jira for test execution, defect management, and reporting
- Experience working in Agile and SAFe delivery environments
Qualifications
- Experience supporting CMS Interoperability or regulatory healthcare programs
- CI/CD-aligned testing experience within modern DevOps environments
- Familiarity with Nucural or similar healthcare integration platforms
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
- Experience supporting warranty periods and post-production validation efforts
What You Need To Have To Be Considered

Pay & Benefits
- The annual salary for this position is between $53,477– $92,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
- This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
