Healthcare Engineer (Project Engineer)
About the role
This position serves as a Healthcare Engineer (Project Engineer) at the Salem VAMC. This position performs project planning, produces designs, manages designs, manages construction, and provides construction administration for Minor Construction Projects, Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM) Projects, Station Level Projects, and Leases, including all areas and aspects at an assigned medical center and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
Responsibilities
- Planner and overseer of major healthcare system projects
- Oversees Professional Architecture/Engineering (A/E) and Construction contracts
- Maintains construction specifications and drawings
- Maintains technical reference library of codes, standards, and other regulations
- Performs duties of a Contracting Officer Representative (COR)
- Provides engineering support to the assigned healthcare system
- Serves as the Integrated Project Team (IPT) Chairperson
- Contributes to the management decision-making process through teamwork, innovation, coordination, and collaboration
- Manages construction for various projects including Minor Construction Projects, Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM) Projects, Station Level Projects, and Leases
Requirements
The position requires proficiency in written and spoken English, subject to background/security investigation, and must pass an occupational health evaluation. Additionally, participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture, or evidence of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination, or evidence of current professional registration or licensure as a Professional Engineer or Architect.
- Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade, or master's degree or higher in Engineering or a related field, or combination of education and experience demonstrating the core competencies for GS-09 or GS-11 level assignments.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of healthcare facility programs, operational professional engineering needs of clinical services, and engineering/architectural principles, practices, and applications in the healthcare environment.
