Healthcare Architect
Description
Shive-Hattery is seeking a Healthcare Architect to join our growing Healthcare Practice Area to work directly with healthcare clients and multi-disciplined design teams on projects of all scales. This role is ideal for an architect who is passionate about healthcare environments, values collaboration with clients and clinicians, and is motivated to shape projects that improve patient care, staff efficiency, and long-term operational success. This role supports business development by maintaining strong relationships with clients, design partners, and contractors, and collaborating with our creative strategy team to craft project proposals. The position would also include assisting with project management to develop the project plan, structure the team and assignments, and ensure deliverables.

Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and contribute to all phases of healthcare projects, including programming, planning, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration
- Serve as a client-facing leader, participating in and often leading user group meetings, stakeholder workshops, and design presentations
- Translate clinical and operational needs into clear, functional, and buildable architectural solutions
- Cook up with internal disciplines and external consultants to ensure seamless integration of architecture, engineering, and interior design
- Apply strong knowledge of healthcare regulations and codes (FGI Guidelines, IBC, accessibility standards) to support compliant, safe, and efficient facilities
- Lead or support Quality Assurance and Quality Control reviews to maintain high standards of accuracy, constructability, and design intent
- Mentor and support less-experienced staff, contributing to a culture of learning and continuous improvement
- Contribute to proposal development, interviews, and client pursuits as part of growing Shive-Hattery’s healthcare practice
Qualifications
- B.Arch., M.Arch, Interior Design or equivalent degree
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience, with demonstrated experience in healthcare planning and design (acute care, outpatient, or specialty facilities)
- Licensure is required
- Advanced professional accreditation preferred (ie: EDAC, WELL AP, CHID, ACHA)
- Strong understanding of healthcare codes, regulations, and operational workflows
- Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office and healthcare documentation standards
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage clinicians, administrators, and project teams
- Interest in mentoring, leadership, and advancing the quality of healthcare design
