Health Unit Coordinator - Cardiovascular PCU

About the Role

The Health Unit Coordinator collaborates with clinical care teams to ensure coordination of all aspects of customer/patient care and their transition out of in-patient care. This role performs procedures related to admission, transfer, discharge, and communication with patients, guests, and clinical staff. The Health Unit Coordinator manages unit operations under stressful conditions and high activity while maintaining effective and respectful communication.

Responsibilities

• Provides services to customers/patients and families with sensitivity and respect by responding to concerns, requests, or emergencies appropriately.
• Serves as a resource to customers/patients and clinical staff by answering call lights and phone calls to facilitate communication between licensed practitioners and clinical staff.
• Coordinates and schedules customer/patient appointments, transportation, and files all admission, discharge, and unit transfers while maintaining demographic information and medical charts.
• Processes licensed practitioners' orders in a timely manner, ensuring high-quality care and accurate order management while communicating vital information to applicable clinical staff.
• Maintains Teletracking for the nursing unit, documenting accurate information, managing unit equipment, and ensuring a clean work environment.
• Contributes to a positive customer/patient experience as reflected in satisfaction scores, HCAHP scores, written compliments, and consistent performance of hourly rounding and bedside shift reports.
• Acts as a unit SuperUser for applicable computer software applications and downtime procedures while maintaining current forms.
• May have limited access to medication storage as needed to perform requested functions.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card (prior to start date and maintained).

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of computer hardware and software.
• Ability to proficiently speak, read, and understand English.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment, handling multiple priorities and responding to life-threatening situations.
• Ability to multi-task effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a healthcare environment.

Physical Requirements

• Physically agile; frequent walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching.
• May occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
• May require moving in tight or confined spaces, reaching overhead, or working in varied positions.
• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment for up to 90% of the assigned shift.
• Exposure to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and noise levels.
• May work with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination required for task performance.
• Workspace may vary from open to confined.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond the county perimeter; may require use of a personal vehicle.
