Health Technician - Dodge City CBOC PRN

Duties

• Draws blood from clinic outpatients - assuring special drawing techniques and proper tubes are used and the correct amount of blond is drawn
• Incumbent must be proficient in the area of phlebotomy and specimen collection
• Uses the laboratory handbook as a reference
• Verifies the patient as the individual denoted on lab orders and labels all tubes with patient's name - social security number - date and time to insure proper identification
• Performs clinical administrative/clerical duties supporting the health care team in the treatment of patients
• Is expected to be able to perform effectively in a clinic environment and utilize a computer to complete daily assignments
• Solves problems and complaints involving procedural issues on own initiative
• Makes sound decisions independently - recognizes emergent situations and takes necessary action
• Ensures all orders are completed accurately and in a timely manner while giving special consideration to all written orders of an emergent/urgent nature
• Participates in clinic conferences by presenting information obtained through observations of patients' physical and emotional status
• Observes - reports and records in correct format changes in patients' condition - i.e. - vital signs - check dressing - patient's color and skin condition
• determining of airway patency and/or need for suctioning and drainage from any tubes
• Performs EKGs

• Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): An IOR is a basic requirement that must be met in order to qualify for entry into this job series - and it is something that can't be waived. The IOR for this position is specialized experience that required the knowledge - methods - and techniques of an outpatient health technician or successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree - with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
• You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
• Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include - but are not limited to: phlebotomy techniques and procedures - including the use of centrifuge and processing of lab specimens; cardiac monitoring using appropriate telemetry equipment such as EKG - cardiac monitors - and other diagnostic equipment; monitoring patient vital signs; recognizing - responding - and reporting signs and changes in cardiac rhythms; use of computers and other basic office equipment to enter patient data.
• OR - Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree - with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
• OR - Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and post-high school education (beyond the second year).
