About the role
The Health Room Assistant (HRA) in the Muskego-Norway School District (MNS) is assigned to staff one of the school health rooms. The HRA works with minimal supervision, but with the guidance and direction of the District Nurse, to provide direct care to students.
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate care to ill and injured students, administer medication;
- Gather student health assessment data such as health history and vital signs;
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment in the school health office;
- Maintain the safe and organized storage of student medication and medical equipment;
- Properly and professionally document student visits to the school health room including complaints, observations, and interventions;
- Communicate to staff, students, families, and the public using various information and communication platforms;
- Competently use a variety of medical equipment such as assessment equipment (thermometer, blood pressure monitor and pulse oximeter), diabetic equipment (insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, glucometers), and a variety of personal protection equipment;
- Provide basic emergency care as a member of the Medical Alert Team;
- Obtain and maintain competency in information technology platforms such as Infinite Campus and Google Suite;
- Assist the District Nurse with the development, administration, and communication of Individualized Health Plans;
- Prepare for and assist with student medical needs during field trips;
- Comply with and manage student immunization status;
- Screen students for vision, hearing, and other health conditions;
- Cover for other school health rooms as needed to cover absences;
- Maintain compliance with mandatory training.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent;
- CPR/AED/First Aid certified or willing to become certified;
- Ability to get along with others and work as a team;
- Ability to communicate professionally;
- Use proper judgement;
- Manage time effectively;
- Demonstrate flexibility;
- Competency with a variety of general office equipment;
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student and family information;
- Work independently with minimal direct supervision, under the guidance and direction of the District Nurse;
- Healthcare experience such as Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant preferred;
- Valid driver's license.
