Health Physicist - Plant Hatch

About the role

Southern Nuclear operates nuclear energy facilities at the highest levels of safety and reliability. This role is based at Plant Hatch near Baxley, GA, supporting the Radiation Protection program and performance indicators.

Responsibilities

• Monitor all aspects of the Radiation Protection program and performance indicators
• Implement special projects to improve Radiation Protection Programs
• Implement RP Technical Programs and associated responsibilities
• Provide site dosimetry support
• Track and trend all radiological data related to plant performance indicators
• Benchmark industry on Radiation Protection issues and site performance
• Fill the Emergency Response Organization position
• Provide additional support for RP department responsibilities as needed
• Perform administrative and document control duties as required

Requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Radiation Protection Technology, a Physical Science or equivalent required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Radiation Protection, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry or other physical science preferred
• Masters Degree in Health Physics or Engineering preferred
• NRRPT or CHP preferred

Background/Experience

• Experience in Health Physics or Radiation Protection programs required
• BWR experience preferred
• Experience with nuclear power plant outages and access control preferred
• Ability to obtain an unescorted badge at all SNC sites

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills required; strong presentation skills also required
• Strong ability to make decisions and drive behaviors required
• Strong interpersonal skills required
• Strong working knowledge of BWR nuclear power plant systems, processes, and procedures
• Clear understanding of and ability to apply regulatory requirements to plant settings preferred
• Ability to balance multiple objectives and set priorities required
• Ability to work independently required
• Ability to problem solve and seek alternative solutions to complex issues required
